Grenada joined the IWC in 1993 and actively supported Japan on various issues although it was not present for many of the votes in the early years of its membership. Although Grenada abstained on the 1994 Southern Ocean sanctuary vote, it has been a committed supporter of the pro-whaling position since 1993. Just 5 out of 121 votes taken by both countries since 1993 have differed; three of these votes by Grenada being abstentions rather than votes taken against Japan’s position.
